This summer seems to just be flying by, leaving us little time to post to our blog. Patrick is coaching at Wave the Wheat meet in Lawrence this weekend. Patrick actually renamed the meet to Wave the Wheat a couple of years ago.
Last weekend- the 4th of July weekend- Patrick's mom came to visit. On the 4th of July we went to our friends' Heidi and Josh's house in Lenexa. We were able to see their brand new baby, Britta. We had a yummy barbeque at their house. We brought along some pesto pasta salad and a fruit pizza fashioned to look like a star. The kids had fun playing with bubbles and on the swing set. On our way back to Lawrence, we decided to go downtown to see some fireworks. The fireworks were being set off near the river. We decided not to go into the throngs of people, and instead staked out a spot a bit further away where we had lots of room. Some people sat down next to us, and they just so happened to be our neighbors, so we enjoyed watching the fireworks with them.
The following day we went to Deanna Rose Farmstead in Overland Park. This is a wonderful place for kids. They have so much to do- a nature walk, a petting zoo, pony rides, fishing, crafts, etc. We didn't do nearly everything possible while we were there, but petted and fed lots of animals. Elle also rode on the pony twice! The weather was beautiful over the weekend, as well, with the high being around 80 degrees! It was wonderful and I can't remember the last time the temperature has been so cool on the 4th of July.
Elle started her third session of swim lessons at Lawrence Swim School this week. She has been working with the same teacher at all of her lessons. Her teacher is a girl who swims for KU. Elle has been jumping off the side of the pool and swimming to her teacher, though her arms aren't really coming out of the water yet.
