On Tuesday of this past week, Sarah's grandfather passed away. He was 94 and went very peacefully. Oh how he will be missed, though! We will have a memorial for him on May 22nd in Albuquerque. We have been reflecting about him quite a bit and are all very thankful for the time we had with him. Grandpa was always very creative and good at using his hands. When Sarah was 6, he made her a cute little heart photo book with a page for each year of her life. His words in the book were quite clever. The heart book is quite tattered as it has been read many times and it is something that Sarah cherishes. Although Grandpa was very quiet, you could often tell how he was feeling by the expression on his face. When he would see the kids or animals, the ends of his mouth would curl up in a little smile. He was quite stubborn, but looking back, I'm so glad he had this quality. He was going to do what he liked when he liked and people were not going to tell him otherwise. His loss makes me think of Grandma and how odd it must be to have spent roughly 74 years with someone and no longer have that person by your side. It has always surprised me how resilient and strong spouses are when they have lost their loved one after being married for such a long time. Grandma is exhibiting these qualities, as well. As they have always been very religious people, I am sure that she trusts God and knows that Grandpa is in a good place. There is so much I could say about Grandpa, but all I'll say is that he will be deeply missed.

We have been trying to carry on with our other duties as normal. May 4th marks Sarah's last class for the semester. She gave a presentation last week and just has to turn in a paper this coming Monday. Since finishing her practicum a week ago, time has been spent catching up on other tasks, such as taking the car in to be fixed. Both cars need a trip to the shop, but we took Patrick's car in for new timing belts. When explaining to Elle that Patrick's car had to be fixed, she said, "I'll help. I'll go get some tape." If only it was that easy!

Last weekend Patrick had a swim meet in Topeka. On Saturday he only had to be present for the morning session, so Sarah brought the kids up in the afternoon and we went to the Topeka zoo. We were there while the giraffes were being fed. It was fun, but we ended up getting caught in quite a storm. We made it back to the car and were completely drenched. Upon arriving back home we heard the tornado sirens and we soon went from being in a tornado watch to a tornado warning. We all headed downstairs and waited out the storm. One of the coaches in KC saw a funnel cloud on his drive back from the meet.
That evening we went chair shopping for Jay. Back when Elle was his age we bought her a toddler size chair, which she loves. Jay recently also discovered how much he enjoyed the chair, so to keep peace in our hose, we picked out a chair for him. It's navy courderoy and Jay looks so cute when he sits in it.
Yesterday we drove to Kansas City and went back to Wonderscope. Elle received a membership there for her birthday and yesterday seemed like a good day to go. Since last going, Jay started walking and he can play with some of the more advanced toys. They have a water room and Jay had a blast. He was soaked when we left the room. As of now, he absolutely adores water. When he hears us start the bath water, he comes running. Elle had a good time in Wonderscope, although I'm not sure what room was her favorite during this trip.
Another thing to note this week is that Patrick won a design competition. He's been entering a few designs lately and has been runner-up a couple of times, but this time he won! He created a pretty cool logo for a home remodeling company.
