It is hard to believe that we have already had our blog going for a year! The kids sure have grown and changed a lot since our first post.
We had a very low-key Easter. The kids had Easter baskets and some gifts. Elle made a gingerbread bunny house, which was fun. She definitely snuck a few pieces of candy instead of putting them on the house. Later that evening we went to Hastings and rented a couple of movies. It was raining quite a bit on Easter day, so we decided to stay inside that evening and watch the movies.
Over the past few weekends we have been planting shrubs and flowers. We put up the hanging flower baskets in the backyard. In the front, we removed the red rocks near the front door and put in some flowers that are supposed to attract butterflies. We had dumped the soil into a big tub so it was easier to work with. Jay enjoyed crawling in and out of the tub. He was a mess later, so Sarah went put him in the bath and guess what she found on him-- a tick! Yuck! Elle told Jay that she would keep him safe, which was sweet. One day Patrick bought some small pots, seeds, and soil. He took them over to Elle's daycare so the kids could all make one. The lady in charge of the daycare had the kids paint the pots first. A few days we saw something sprouting in Elle's pot, so we'll see how it continues to grow.
Sarah had her last day of practicum on April 24th! It was a great experience being at Project LIVELY and Douglas County Senior Services, but it will be nice having a little more time with Patrick and the kids over the next couple of months. Sarah found out that the Douglas County Senior Services building used to be the jail back in the day. The building where the Aquahawk office is located used to be the Health Department. It's so neat learning about the history of the buildings. We may have to take a walking history tour, although I'm sure it won't be as interesting as the walking ghost tour we went on in Charleston, SC. Sarah also attended a scholar banquet on Thursday recognizing student scholars and scholarship recipients. The school of social welfare hired a new director of field education and she was at the banquet as were other professors.
