Elle's Extended Slumber

Elle was sick this past week.  She didn't go to her childcare provider on Tuesday.  We were hoping that she would be well enough to make up the day and go on Wednesday, but she wasn't.  When Elle is sick she tends to be in a rotten mood and she, quite frankly, is not very fun to be around.  She threw lots of tantrums and "no" was yelled with attitude.  On Friday afternoon Sarah bundled up the kids and walked to the park with the kids in the wagon.  It was really cold out (in the low 30s), so the kids had jackets and were covered with blankets during the ride.  They swung for a little while at the park, but then Jay became fussy so we headed home.  I think it was a combination of being cold, hungry, and tired that made him fussy.  He cried on and off the entire ride home.  When we pulled into the garage, Sarah went to get the kids out of the wagon and found that Elle had fallen asleep sitting up!  So, Sarah took her up to bed-- this was at roughly 4:45pm.  She still wasn't awake around dinner time, so Sarah went in, changed Elle's diaper, and put on some music for her.  Elle continued to sleep and slept for over 14 hours straight!  She was one tired little girl.  Needless to say, the sleep really helped improve Elle's mood as she was much more enjoyable to be around the next two days.

Patrick left Friday morning for a 3 day swim meet in Columbia, Missouri.  He is supposed to arrive back home late Sunday evening.  We are all looking forward to his return as is the case every time he goes out of town.  While Patrick was out of town Sarah, Elle, and Jay did lots of Christmas shopping.  Hopefully there won't be too much more to do, but I don't think that's the case as the shopping always seems to drag on and on.

We have been quite challenged lately when it comes to keeping clothes on Elle.  She constantly wants to strip down to either just her diaper or to the nude.  It wouldn't be such a big deal if it was summer, but since it's cold out we don't want her to be sick more frequently.  On the other hand, we are hoping that her disrobing tendencies are a step in the direction to being potty trained.  Over the course of the past three days Elle has gone in her potty four times!  She is also starting to recognize when she has a wet diaper as she takes her diaper off and asks for a new diaper.  So, we're getting there-- slowly, but surely.

Tonight we used Skype for the first time.  Sarah was unfamiliar with the program.  It is a program that you can use to talk to people via your computer while also using video capabilities so you can see who you are talking to.  If anyone would like to chat with us from time to time via Skype, please let us know.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We are looking forward to the short work week and extended weekend.  Yardwork and schoolwork are definitely on the agenda for the long weekend.  We also need to clean out our gutters.  If the weather is nice we may try to hang up some Christmas lights.  We were going to volunteer to deliver Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors on Thanksgiving day, but the agency already had enough volunteers.  Maybe next year we can do something to the same effect.

Here are some more pictures of our basement.  The work still is not completed, but much has been done.  Two of the pictures are of the living room area and the other is of the desk we are making where the bar used to be.
